Start with the exact model and the design for your home. The Daikin UK heat-pump page presents air-to-water, air-to-air and domestic hot-water options. Availability, specifications and warranty terms should be confirmed for the quoted product.
Before committing to any brand, get a proper heat-loss survey. An MCS-certified installer should calculate the design heat load for your property rather than sizing a heat pump by bedroom count alone. The Energy Saving Trust explains that system design, insulation levels and flow temperature all determine real-world performance.
Daikin sells several heat pump types relevant to UK homeowners.
These are the most common residential models. They extract heat from outdoor air and transfer it to a wet central heating system. Daikin's air-to-water range includes monobloc units (the refrigerant circuit contained in the outdoor unit) and split systems (outdoor unit plus indoor hydraulic module). Monobloc designs simplify installation because there is no refrigerant pipework between indoor and outdoor units, which means the installer does not need F-Gas certification for that element.
Daikin is well known for air-to-air systems, which heat (and cool) rooms directly without a wet heating circuit. These do not replace a boiler-fed radiator system and are better suited to supplementary heating or properties without wet central heating. The BUS grant for air-to-air heat pumps is £2,500, lower than the £7,500 available for air-to-water or ground-source systems (GOV.UK BUS grant categories).
When comparing Daikin models, ask the installer which refrigerant the unit uses. Use the exact product data sheet; do not infer the refrigerant from the brand or another model. The refrigerant choice can affect planning considerations and long-term servicing costs.
Manufacturer efficiency figures are tested under laboratory conditions (EN 14825) and expressed as a Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCOP). A SCOP of 3.5 means the heat pump produces 3.5 kWh of heat for every 1 kWh of electricity consumed, measured across a typical heating season. Daikin publishes SCOP figures for each model in its product data sheets.

The following is a hypothetical example, not a measured figure. Assume a three-bedroom semi-detached house with an annual heat demand of 12,000 kWh. If the heat pump achieves a real-world SCOP of 3.2 and electricity costs 24.5p per kWh (a purely illustrative tariff), the annual electricity cost for heating would be roughly:
12,000 kWh ÷ 3.2 = 3,750 kWh of electricity 3,750 × £0.245 = approximately £919 per year
The same heat demand met by a gas boiler at 92% efficiency and a gas tariff of 6.8p per kWh would cost roughly:
12,000 ÷ 0.92 = 13,043 kWh of gas 13,043 × £0.068 = approximately £887 per year
At these illustrative tariffs, the running costs are similar. The balance tips in the heat pump's favour when electricity is cheaper relative to gas, when the SCOP is higher (better insulation, lower flow temperatures) or when a time-of-use tariff reduces the effective electricity rate. Homes replacing oil or LPG often see clearer savings because those fuels tend to cost more per kWh than mains gas.
These figures are assumptions, not predictions. Your actual costs depend on your tariff, property, system design and how you use heating.
All air-source heat pumps produce some outdoor noise from the compressor and fan. Ask the installer to demonstrate compliance with the applicable planning and noise rules for the installation location. Daikin publishes sound power and sound pressure levels for each model in its technical documentation. Ask your installer to confirm the noise level at the planned installation position before committing. Compare sound power at matching test conditions, and ask how positioning and vibration isolation affect the proposed installation.

Each quote should include a heat-loss calculation, a system design showing flow temperatures and radiator sizing, and a clear breakdown of equipment and labour. Comparing quotes on price alone is not enough; check that each installer has designed the system to deliver comfort at the lowest reasonable flow temperature.
You can compare Daikin quotes against other brands such as NIBE, Vaillant, Samsung or Mitsubishi. The best system for your home is the one correctly sized and designed for your heat loss, not necessarily the cheapest or the most expensive.
Daikin heat pumps qualify for the same government grants as any other eligible brand, provided the installation meets scheme rules.
The BUS is available in England and Wales. As of July 2026, the approved grant values are:
The property must be an existing building (most new builds and social housing are excluded). The installation must be carried out by an MCS-certified installer, and commissioning must happen within 120 days of applying. Fossil-fuel hybrid systems do not qualify as the new installation. BUS funding is confirmed through the 2029/30 fiscal year under the Warm Homes Plan (GOV.UK BUS eligibility).
The BUS no longer requires outstanding loft or cavity wall insulation recommendations to be completed before applying. Insulating your home first is still sensible because it reduces heat demand and improves heat pump performance, but it is not a grant eligibility condition.
ECO4 runs until 31 December 2026 and funds energy efficiency measures (including heat pumps in some cases) for households on qualifying benefits in homes with low EPC ratings. Eligibility is not automatic; it depends on tenure, EPC band, household circumstances and the measures the scheme can fund. Your energy supplier or a council ECO Flex referral determines whether you qualify.
This England-only grant targets private homes rated EPC D to G, usually with household income at most £36,000. Qualifying benefits or postcodes can provide alternative routes. The grant funds improvements determined by a council survey, and funding delivery runs to March 2028. A national application portal exists at GOV.UK. Scotland has separate support programmes.
Installed energy-saving materials, including heat pumps, currently qualify for zero-rate VAT through 31 March 2027, after which the rate is scheduled to rise to 5%. This applies to professionally installed systems, not supply-only purchases.
