Editorial Policy
Eco Home Check is committed to plain, factual, source-verified content about UK energy grants and home efficiency. This page explains our standards, research process, review cycle, and corrections commitment.
Our Commitment
Every page on Eco Home Check must meet three standards before publication: it must be factually accurate against primary sources, written in plain language that a homeowner can act on, and transparent about how the information was gathered and when it was last verified. We do not publish content we cannot verify.
Research Process
- Every article begins with primary source research: GOV.UK, Ofgem, MCS Register, BFRC, and Energy Saving Trust
- Grant eligibility criteria are verified line-by-line against official scheme documentation — not secondary summaries
- Cost data is triangulated from at least three independent industry sources before publication
- Claims that cannot be verified against a named primary source are not published
- All grant amounts and scheme statuses are checked at point of publication, not assumed from previous versions
Review Process
- Every article passes fact-checking against primary sources before it goes live
- All published pages display a 'Last reviewed' date
- Grant amounts and scheme deadlines reviewed monthly; corrected within 48 hours of any official scheme change
- Cost ranges reviewed quarterly — typically January, April, July, and October
- If government guidance changes, affected pages are updated as a priority, regardless of the usual review cycle
Use of AI
Like many modern publishers, we use AI tools to assist with research synthesis and initial drafting. All published content is fact-checked against primary sources, reviewed for accuracy and clarity, and aligned with our editorial standards before going live. AI is a research tool, not the final authority. No content is published solely on the basis of AI output — every factual claim is verified against a named primary source by our editorial team before publication.
Independence
Eco Home Check is funded by affiliate commissions from installer partners. These commissions do not influence our editorial content, eligibility results, or recommendations. We do not accept payment to include, exclude, or rank any product, installer, or scheme in our editorial content. Our installer partner list is based solely on the criteria set out in our methodology.
For full details on our funding model, see our How We Earn page.
